U.S. Figure Skating Stars Raise More Than $37,000
For Tsunami Relief
The performers in Skate-Aid for Tsunami Relief
(2/7/05) — Skate-Aid for Tsunami Relief, a figure skating
benefit show hosted by U.S. ice dancing champions Tanith Belbin & Ben
Agosto, raised more than $37,000 last Friday evening. The proceeds
will go to the Red Cross International Response Fund for Tsunami
Relief.
Belbin and Agosto invited fellow U.S. figure skating teammates
Johnny Weir, Timothy Goebel, Amber Corwin, Evan Lysacek, Katie
Orscher & Garrett Lucash, Rena Inoue & John Baldwin, Tiffany
Scott & Philip Dulebohn, and more to participate in the show
at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, Mich. With an attendance
of 1,570 and a silent auction, Belbin and Agosto were thrilled
with the results of their self-run event. The $37,000 total does
not include separate donations to date.
In addition U.S. Figure Skating, in conjunction
with eBay, will be holding an online auction of a one-of-a-kind
memento with all proceeds donated to the cause. More information
about the auction, which will begin Feb. 11, will be available
later in the week. |
